Finally!!!!!

I'm finished! We had a minor delay due to some mismatched tile. I put the last two tiles up tonight! Now they just need to be grouted and the edges need to be caulked. Then we will be in the clear!

Another Slow Start

This is my progress today. I am about halfway through. Only three more rows to go! Hopefully I can finish tomorrow so I can grout on Wednesday. I sustained a minor injury today, so minor I didn't even know I had it! I couldn't figure out why there was orange-ish, red stuff all over my tiles. Turns out I cut my finger, I wouldn't even call it a cut. I think I will live though....... I think...

One Side Down, One More To Go

Yesterday I was able to finish what I started over the weekend. So the left side of the kitchen is now completely tiled and ready to grout. Hopefully I will get an earlier start on the other side this weekend. I am hoping to finish everything this weekend.

Tile Is Going Up

The first two rows were pretty easy, no major cuts had to be made. I started to get worried once I had to start making cuts to go around the outlets. There are three on this side of the kitchen, and I must say, I think I did a pretty good job!!




I was VERY proud of this cut. It was the first outlet I had to cut around.

I had to stop since it was getting dark and my wet saw was set up outside. This is what I have finished so far.



It is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. The last row is going to be interesting, there is not enough space for a full tile so pretty much every one will have to be cut. I absolutely LOVE the way it looks. I can't wait to be finished!!!

Today Was Our Lucky Day

So it is no secret that I want a white subway tile back splash like this:

And it's also no secret that we have been putting it off. Number one, because I am very scared to attempt it myself. And number two, we simply haven't bought any tile. Well, it looks like I am going to have to get over my fear because we bought tile today.

I think I have mentioned the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store before. We decided to pay a little visit today hoping we would get REALLY lucky and find a solid wood exterior door to replace our beat up metal door. Well, no such luck. They had tons of really nice doors, they just were not what we were looking for. But we did find boxes and boxes of tile!!! We weren't even looking for it I just happened to be walking by and noticed it. We NEVER get this lucky!!!

So, of course we have done the math. We already knew that subway tiles at Home Depot are 21 cents a piece. Cheaper than Lowes who have them for 22 cents. We had already figured out about how much we would need, and planned on spending anywhere from $60-&80. Well, we bought four boxes of 100 tiles. Each box was marked at $5!! That's right 400 tiles for $20!! Can you believe it?!

Time Flies When You're Having Fun!!

We closed on our house two years ago today. I can't believe it has already been two years! These pictures were actually taken on February 1st, the day after we closed. We (Sergio) had to shovel our way to the door.

So much has changed since then! Ugly brown shutters, gone, soon to be replaced by some awesome shutters that I got for a steal at the Habitat for Humanity store. HUGE tree, gone, just a pile of mulch now. Old windows, gone, replaced with shiny new vinyl windows. Junkie storm door, gone, we now have a beautiful full glass, white storm door! Also on the list, removed bushes, new mailbox, and Sergio painted the lamp post to look shiny and new. I can't wait for spring and summer so we can start working on some more outdoor projects.

Why White?

Some people might be wondering why I would paint over oak cabinets, and why white? Well, why not? White is classic, it's timeless. Plus, I love me a white kitchen! I am very happy with the way our cabinets turned out. Right now things are on hold because we have a piece of counter top that doesn't fit. The new piece is ready, we just have to figure out a time to pick it up. After that I will attempt to install a white subway tile back splash. I also need to figure out what I want to do on the walls. I have a lot of ideas, maybe too many, I can't decide!
